eTrainerCB Course Builder eTrainer MT
eTrainerCB Course Builder The eTrainerCB Course Builder is an instructional design and production software that supports trainers and instructors in the rapid creation of online courses and modules. eTrainerCB utilizes instructional design templates, has a built-in web authoring tool, and it exports course content to LMS (Learning Management System). It can also deploy courses packed into Zip files or onto web servers. eTrainerCB is an easy-to-use, step-by-step course creation tool.

An end-user can thus create SCO's (Shareable Content Objects) or learning objects that conform to the SCORM specifications for interoperability of content, and the SCO's or learning objects can be deployed onto any SCORM-compliant delivery platform.

Requirements:
  • Internet Explorer 5.0 and up
  • JavaScript and Cookies Enabled
  • Minimum 56K connection speed

The eTrainerCB Course Builder is an Instructional Design and Production tool to create online courses and modules that are SCORM 1.3 compliant. eTrainerCB is programmed in Java and it is a server-based application. It uses XML templates for creating the course structur. To test compliance with SCORM 1.3 you can access the ADL.net site and download the Run Time Environment (RTE) that certifies eTrainerCB as a SCORM 1.3 compliant. You can create a demo course using the eTrainerCB and run that course through RTE.

In a proposal to disseminate the use of the eTrainerCB we are now allowing free downloads of this tool. In order to download your version you have to match the following requisites listed below:

1. Requirements for the Server environment for the eTrainerCB

Hardware
-X86 Processor
-128 Mbytes RAM
-20 Gbytes Hard drive
Software
-Windows NT 2000 server - IIS (FTP)
- JSP Enabled Web servers optimized for TOMCAT 4.0.6
- ODBC Compliant Database System optimized for MS SQL Server

2. Sign and send us back a contract
in which you can make any desired modifications in the eTrainerCB CourseBuilder and market your version of the tool but will send us a copy of the new version you have created, including access to source code. You will also identify your version of the eTrainerCB Coursebuilder with the same name but adding your additional title, eg. "ETrainerCB Constellation", or "eTrainerCB Soft", etc. Also, in the version you produced there will be acknowledged that the the eTrainerCB was an original development of TELEStraininglobal. We can not sell the version you have developed but we can install and use it in our server and charge for the use of it in the same way your customers do. To obtain a copy of the contract, email teles@telestraining.com

3. Paying for the hours necessary to install the eTrainerCB CourseBuilder in your system.

4. We also provide you with what we consider some of the next important steps in the further development of the Course Builder (See attached SOW). If you may choose to do some of the items, we may implement them to you, and you will pay us the hours spent in the job done by our system analyst.

5. Statement of Work for the eTrainerCB

Task Status Estimated Duration
Performed checking and validation of the source code, to ensure generating the course manifest file with meta-tags that meet the Content Packaging specifications in the SCORM 1.3 Conformance Requirements. Completed
Enabled eTrainerCB to generate an XML file for each HTML page, with data model conforming to the IEEE LOM specifications.
Completed
Enabled eTrainberCB to embed JavaScript for SCO functions on HTML files, whereby the functions communicate with the API of the ADL's Sample RTE or any SCORM-compliant LMS. Completed
Conducted in-depth study on the compatibility issues between SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 1.3 Draft Specifications, and documented requirements for interoperability when deploying courses from one version to the other. Completed

6. Our objectives and projections for additional tasks are listed below:

Task Status Estimated Duration
Improving the features of the on-line HTML editor for authoring courses. The HTML editor has problems with links when importing HTML files with embedded multimedia. This is due to the fundamental design of the program, and modifications will involve uploading files to a specified directory rather than to the database itself. Started 12 weeks
Modifying the platform on which eTrainerCB is to run.Presently, MS SQL Server is used for the database, and Tomcat is used as both the container for JSP and the Web server, giving poor overall performance in speed and security. We suggest integration of a Apache Web server with Tomcat, and investigating into using the open source MySQL to replace the proprietary MS SQL Server.
Started 6 weeks
Creating a dialog box or other interface on the etrainerCB such that the user can key in certain meta-data for the IEEE LOM XML files to describe learning objects more in detail. To be done 2 weeks
Investigating into issues in development environment and platform compatibility. The third-party tools that we are using are constantly being upgraded, and we need to ensure that the new releases do not interfere with the functionality of our software. We also want to ensure that we are not compelled to lock into a particular version of the tools. To be done 3 weeks
Deploying courses created by eTrainerCB directly to a particular plataform, making that platform SCORM compliant repository via access to platform's API. To be done 3 weeks
