Three New Courses for Teachers and Instructors

1. Classroom Applications of OpenOffice.org Tools

2. Enhancing your Classroom Instruction with Impress/PowerPoint

3. Creating your e-Portfolio with Open Source NVU

1. OpenOffice is a free office suite similar to MS Windows and containing four applications: Writer (Word), Calc (Excel), Impress (PowerPoint), and Draw (a drawing program). This suite is being used by millions of teachers, students, and office workers worldwide. Because OpenOffice is free, you can easily use it in your lesson plans, knowing that all students can have a copy. Now you can learn how to use OpenOffice applications in your classroom to enhance your course topics in all areas, such as essay writing, history, mathematics, business, sciences and others.

2. Impress is a slide presentation program similar to PowerPoint that can be used to enhance your classroom instruction through the use of visual aids and multimedia effects that make your class presentations more exciting and interesting.

3. NVU is a very easy-to-use Open Source Web Authoring Tool similar to FrontPage or Dreamweaver. You will learn how to create homepages and your own ePortfolio.

We are offering two versions of each course: one version is a face-to-face workshop and the other is offered entirely online. In these workshops/courses, you will learn how to install OpenOffice, Impress, and/or NVU, and ways you can use the applications in the classroom and in your teaching preparations.

Face-to-Face Workshops

The workshop version is as a four-hour session with an extended one-week online discussion via email mailing list. Students taking the face-to-face workshop receive their own CD with a legal copy of OpenOffice and NVU and a book containing information about installing, downloading and using applications in the classroom.

To register for the f2f version, email info@telestraining.com.. Registrations are limited to 25. The next offering of Classroom Applications of OpenOffice.org Tools is scheduled for Tuesday, July 19, 2005 9:30 am - 12:30 pm at SFU Burnaby.
