for employability skills
The Co-op Bridging Program is
a skills transfer focused curriculum in co-operative
education to help students understand employability
skills, developed at the Simon Fraser University, in
British Columbia.
With increasingly student demand for the program but
a lack of resources to respond to that demand, the Co-op
program staff began to explore other means to offer
the program to a greater number of students while maintaining
its unique qualities.
Co-op staff also wanted to decrease instructor Workload
and spread the co-op intake period over a larger window
of time, giving students increased access to the program,
at any time and any place, and reducing peak load periods
for staff.
As a solution, we developed an online version for the
program called Bridging
Online (BOL), conducted an evaluation of the first
offering of the program to obtain feedback and improve
and deliver the final version, which has been very successful.
Since then more than 2,000 students have taken the program.

Virtual
Classroom for the Inter American Development Bank (IDB)
The Inter
American Development Bank offered a four week training
program every year for its representatives in South
America and the Caribbean to train them on policies
and procedures for funding educational projects in the
region. As the IDB wanted to reduce expenses and increase
efficiency in the training program, we worked with them
to place part of the training material online. A Virtual
Classroom was developed and the IADB representatives
began to work successfully online.

Upgrading
teaching skills
The Technikon
SA of Johannesburg, South Africa, Needed to upgrade
their instructors skills for online teaching. We were
contacted and trained 35 instructors to initiate the online
delivery program. While instructors were trained to teach
online they were also taught to transfer their courses
to the Web. Soon after the training was completed they
began to teach online. The final result was very positive
and opened a new momentum for the Technikon and its online
course delivery programs.

The Certificate in Web-Based Instruction
is a comprehensive solution for teachers, instructors and trainers
who would like to transfer their classroom teaching experience to
online environments and to learn appropriate designs for online
delivery. The program is designed for busy professionals who would
be able to work full time while studying evenings or weekends to
complete the program.
